Tabacon’s Green Initiative
The core mission of Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort has included since its inception the protection and improvement of the environment. The wonders of the Arenal Volcano, the surrounding rainforest and the Tabacon Hot Springs are an integral part of the Tabacon experience, and protecting and even improving this ecosystem is a huge part of the resort’s success.
Tabacon’s Green Initiative centers around five complementing phases:
-
Sustainable Tourism practices: the resort and corporation actively participate in the Costa Rican government sustainable practices. We are members of the Board of Tourism’s Certificate of Sustainable Tourism program (CST).
- Corporate Social Responsibility: Tabacon and its mother company are very active in social and community outreach programs. The cornerstone of the social responsibility effort is the $3 per night guest voluntary donation and matching gift from Tabacon, which has raised over $100,000 in equipment and supplies for local schools and institutions.
- Environmental Awareness and Improvement: Tabacon’s operations include everyday eco-friendly practices such as recycling, use of biodegradable materials, water and sewage treatment, reduction of energy consumption etc. Tabacon is aiming to become certified as a Carbon Neutral Resort in 2009
- Guest and Employee Participation: we encourage our guests to become part of the Tabacon Green experience and social responsibility programs through donations, visits to local institutions and active participation in observation and protection of the parks and environment
- Our Team and Green Brigade: voluntary team of staff members looking to enhance Tabacon’s environmental and sustainable practices.
These five pieces of the Tabacon Green initiative are explained in detail in this document. Any suggestion on improving our efforts is greatly appreciated.
